Pratumnak Hill
What is Pratumnak Hill like?
Pratumnak Hill is a district of Pattaya, on Thailand's eastern gulf coast. Four places are covered here in detail, led by Wat Phra Yai at 4.6★. The mix runs to activities, eat & drink and beaches & beach clubs. Each one carries a first-person verdict from Rob, a local.
Pratumnak Hill sits between the two big beaches — Pattaya to the north, Jomtien to the south — and it's the calmer, greener place to base yourself if you want to be near the action without being in the middle of it. Locals call it 'Buddha Hill' after the golden Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) at the top.
It's residential and low-key: a couple of small, pretty beaches, a scattering of restaurants with views, the Pratumnak viewpoint, and an easy hop by songthaew to either main beach. Good for couples and repeat visitors who've already done the Walking Street thing.
The honest disqualifier: there are no go-go bars and no nightclubs on the hill. If that is the trip you are planning, stay in the centre and visit Pratumnak for the viewpoint instead.
What nobody tells you is where the life actually is. Soi 5 is the beating heart of Pratumnak — a proper run of bars and restaurants that the area's quiet reputation completely hides — while the Cosy Beach side is calmer and developing fast, which is the place to look if you want the relaxed version. If you want the short answer: the Island Bar in the Checkpoint food court on Soi 5 is where I go for a beer, so you may well see me there.
Couples and longer, quieter stays within reach of both beaches — upmarket and laid-back
About 10 minutes by songthaew (baht bus) from Central Pattaya or Jomtien; walkable once you're up on the hill
