What is Na Chom Thian like?
Na Chom Thian is a district of Pattaya, on Thailand's eastern gulf coast. Ten places are covered here in detail, led by Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahavihara at 4.7★. The mix runs to day trips, family & kids and activities. Each one carries a first-person verdict from Rob, a local.
Na Chom Thian — often written Na Jomtien — is the coastal strip running south from Jomtien towards Sattahip. It's less a walkable neighbourhood and more the belt where Pattaya keeps its biggest days-out: Ramayana and Columbia Pictures Aquaverse water parks, Nong Nooch tropical garden, Silverlake vineyard and the Khao Chi Chan Buddha mountain.
It's also home to some of the area's best clifftop and hillside restaurants. You'll need wheels — a car, taxi or scooter — but this is where a lot of the memorable, plan-a-day attractions actually are.
Know what you are choosing. There are no shopping malls out here and no real community centre — the buildings are strung along several kilometres of coast with pockets of activity between them, which suits people who want space and frustrates people who want a neighbourhood.
Two local details. The beach along here is one of the best places in the region to fly a kite, and there is enough wind and enough empty sand to do it properly. And Drifters, right on the sand, is the one to know about for a drink or a pizza with your feet more or less in the water.
